PrEP/PEP
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) are highly effective ways to prevent HIV using medication when taken as prescribed. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a once daily prescription medicine that you take before you come in contact with HIV that will prevent HIV infection. Taking PrEP is a simple and easy step towards a healthy sex life. PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is an antiretroviral medication (ART) taken after potential exposure to HIV to prevent becoming infected. PEP should be used only in emergency situations and must be started within 72 hours after recent possible exposure to HIV.
Services for both medications are available through Community Health Outreach, our sexual health testing programs, and include lab tests, dosage instructions, prescription assistance, benefits navigation, and adherence support.
Community Health Outreach Patient Navigators available to assist with enrollment into PrEP/PEP clinical services. What to expect with working with navigation team:
PrEP/PEP care enrollment visit may take up to one hour.
Includes collection of blood samples for HIV, self-collection urine and swabs for other STIs, and additional comprehensive medical tests.
Information on ways to pay for PrEP through patient assistance programs and insurance benefits.
